UFC 310 Staff Predictions!
GOOD MORNING, FIGHT FANS!
Okay, sorry – maybe a little bit too loud for first thing on a weekend morning…
But still – it’s fight day (again, finally!), and what a card we have today. UFC 310 comes to us live from the fight capital of the world; Las Vegas Nevada, with a truly epic card on display. In the main event, Alexandre Pantoja puts his UFC flyweight gold on the line against the debuting force from the Far East, Kai Asakura. It is also a main card that features Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry putting their undefeated records on the line, whilst Ciryl Gane looks to get back into heavyweight contention against Alexander Volkov.
With all of the above in mind, the staff here at Fight Bananas decided to make some predictions for the main card. Read on down below to see where we all think these fights are ending up! Our prediction staff consists of:
Dave Van Auken (founder and face of Fight Bananas)
UFC strawweight star Gillian Robertson
American Top Team’s finest, Elle Dawson
Fight Bananas star Maddie Levine
Ryan Jarrell
Keelin McNamara (me – hi!)
Nate Landwehr vs Doo-Ho Choi (FW division) (4-2 Landwehr)
As you would expect from Fight Bananas, we start off our main card opener with quite a lot of disagreement. Tennessee native Nate “The Train” Landwehr kicks off the main card against South Korean slugger Doo-Ho Choi. Dave, Gillian, Elle and Ryan are all backing Landwehr to pick up the win in this one, whilst myself and Maddie are fancying Choi’s chances to pick up another big win in a truly stacked, deep-running featherweight division.
Bryce Mitchell vs Kron Gracie (FW Division) (5-1 Mitchell)
Now this is a very interesting fight, again in the featherweight division (remember I told you it was stacked?). This fight features everyone’s favourite conspiracy theorist, Bryce “Thug Nasty” Mitchell, taking on Kron Gracie of the legendary Gracie family. Both fighters are coming into this fight off the back of losses, with Mitchell suffering a devastating knockout loss to Josh Emmet, whilst Gracie showed very little in his last fight against Charles Jourdain. Myself, Maddie, Ryan, Elle and Gillian all think Mitchell is going to get back to winning ways, whilst Dave is stranded on Gracie Island by himself in believing Kron Gracie will pick up a huge win.
Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov (HW division) (5-1 Gane)
Next up is another intriguing fight, but this time it’s the big boys of the UFC, with Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov set to do battle in the heavyweight division. Again, we have a dominant leaning in this fight, but this time it’s Maddie stranded by herself in thinking that Russia’s Volkov will pick up the victory. Myself, Elle, Gillian, Ryan and Dave all believe that it will be “Le Tricolor” flying high at the end of this fight.
Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Ian Machado Garry (WW division) (6-0 Rakhmanov)
And just like that, we have our first unanimous decision for this card.
First of all, props to both fighters for agreeing to this fight. Not only is this likely a welterweight title fight eliminator, but both men are staking something equally important – their undefeated professional records. Kazakhstan’s finest, Rakhmonov, is staking his perfect 18-0 record against Machado Garry’s 15-0 record. And all six of us believe that Rakhmonov will have too much in this fight.
Alexandre Pantoja vs Kai Asakura (FW championship) (5-1 Pantoja)
For the second time this card, Maddie’s going against the grain!
This is a huge (and very interesting) matchup, with flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defending his flyweight gold against Japanese star, and debuting, Kai Asakura. Myself, Dave, Gillian, Elle and Ryan are all prediction Pantoja will hang on to his hard-earned gold, whilst Maddie expects Asakura to make a huge splash in his UFC bow.
What do you think of our picks? Is there anything that you would change? Make sure to get involved, watch the fights and let us know in the comments!
[Scratches record] Yeah, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up here…or not. My name’s Keelin McNamara, and I am an AVID combat sports fan. Always have been, and probably always will be. I started writing and podcasting about MMA in the Summer of 2020 (yeah, we don’t talk about that here either). I’ve been doing it ever since, and have loved every single minute of it! Thanks for checking out whatever it is you’re reading – I hope you enjoy it!
