UFC 292 Breaks Revenue Records for TD Garden in Boston with Knockout Numbers
On Saturday night, Boston was buzzing with MMA fans as UFC 292 served up a sold-out show at the TD Garden, delivering on everything from sensational knockouts to Blockbuster moments.
While the card alone was impressive, UFC 292 managed to break records as being the 2nd highest-grossing event in TD Garden history.
During the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White shared that UFC 292 broke the Bantamweight Title Fight PPV record, and after such an incredible response from the city, it piqued White’s interest in doing an economic study on Boston.
“This thing broke tons of records,” he said. “We’re going to do an economic study on Boston. The economic impact that we had on this city had to be massive too…for not a Celtics or Bruins game, or Patriots game…big night.”
Anytime you can get a Bostonian out of their respective New England team’s jersey for a night, it’s a win all around. For the fastest-growing sport in the country to stake its claim the way it did in the sports-hungry territory of Boston, it shows just how big of an impact the UFC has on sports fans.
The latest UFC pay-per-view proved that MMA has a home in New England, right alongside the Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics.
TD Garden President Amy Latimer told the Boston Herald on Friday before the fights that this event was expected to become the highest-grossing sporting event in the arena’s history, outside of the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Championship, with an expected revenue of $6.75 million.
On Saturday night during the post-fight press conference, White announced the revenue at a whopping $7.25 million, making UFC 292 a huge win for Boston.
With New England fans already chirping about UFC’s return to Boston, White kept his answer brief.
“Any time I get an excuse to come back to Boston, I’m coming, believe me,” he said. “I love this city..I love the food in the north end…I love the steak tips out in south Boston…I’ll get back here as many times as I possibly can.”
After a record-breaking night, chances are he won’t waste much time on a return.
