Now then fight fanatics! This week we head back to The UFC Apex for UFC Vegas 93 : Perez v Taira. But 1st off let’s talk about last week. Everyone has a bad weekend. In Louisville that’s exactly what happened. Bad reads from me, as detailed below. Because as always I promise full transparency.

MELQUIZAEL COSTA TO BEAT SHAYILAN NUERDANBIEKE @ -185.

Costa has Shayilan outgunned here. Better striking, better BJJ & a solid set of wrestling chops, meaning that Shayilan doesn’t have any advantages here. Couple that with the fact that once this gets out the 1st round, Costa is likely to finish Shayilan. That’s because Shayilan only has enough gas in his tank for 5 minutes. After that he’s pretty ripe for the picking. I’m keeping the analysis and picks simple this week. This can’t be simpler, Costa just has the clearer paths to victory. I’ve faith he’s one to get me back in the win column.

ALEX PEREZ V TATSURO TAIRA – UNDER 3.5 RDS @ -138

The main event of the evening. A fight I absolutely loved from the minute it was made. Taira is getting his first real test in the UFC for me here as he takes on an extremely confident Alex Perez. Taira loves a finish, and Perez is coming off a 2nd round KO win last time out against Nicolau. Both guys have well over a 50% finish rate, Taira finishes nearly 75% of his fights. So I can’t see this one making it past the 3rd let alone the halfway point of the 4th. It’s going to be a firefight while it lasts. This is probably my favourite play of the card! LOG IT!

JULIA POLASTRI TO BEAT JOSEPHINE KNUTTSON @ +150.

I think the line is way off on this one. It’s more of a 50/50 fight than the line suggests for sure. I’ve not been overly impressed with the unbeaten Swede so far, and I think Polastri has all the tools to get the W here. Knuttson is a great kick boxer, with decent enough grappling. But mainly all her accolades have come in kickboxing. As we know from the past MMA isn’t kickboxing. Julia has quality BJJ and the far better wrestling game. She also has very good striking defence. For me, this just isn’t a good match up for Knuttson, and unless we some dodgy judging, I’m confident that Polastri has all the tools to get this done.
