JONES V ASPINALL | ASPINALL ON PIERS MORGAN : UNCENSORED
Tom Aspinall appeared on the Piers Morgan : UNCENSORED show last Friday night, and the current Interim UFC Heavyweight champion had an update on his potential blockbuster showdown with Jon Jones.
The controversial British media pundit Morgan asked Aspinall if a fight with Jon Jones would finally materialise, and if he had any updates as to when this mega fight might take place.
Aspinall explained to Morgan “Right after that press conference I had a meeting with Dana,”.
So in all honesty I was expecting to come, and we would negotiate a little bit, but he literally walked into the room and said, ‘It’s happening.”
Before Aspinall added the line that gives all of us fight fans all the hope we needed, that this fight does in fact get made.
“And I said, ‘Well he’s going to want loads of money’. And he said, ‘I know, but it’s happening. And it’s going to be the biggest fight in UFC history.”
Is the fight really going to happen? In my opinion there is definitely more chance of this fight taking place now, then their was before Jones knocked out Stipe at UFC309 in New York.
Jones even refused to do an interview with British media outlet TNT Sports reporter Adam Catterall before his fight with Miocic. Saying,
“Hey I’m not going to do this interview,” Jones said as he headed for the exit, once he’d shook hands with Catterall.
“Because It’s going to be an Aspinall fest. I’m not going to do it.” Jones added as he left.
But in the post fight presser Jones seemed to be more open to the idea of facing Tom, if he gets that “F#%K YOU MONEY”. Telling the media at the UFC309 presser,
“He’s annoying to me,” Jones said. “He’s annoying to me and that’s my own personal—he annoys me. I get it you guys find it entertaining, but I find him annoying. I just don’t like him and at the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated-I want to say it, I want that ‘f*ck you’ money, honestly. That’s just what it is.
“Or else my life is perfect without him. I don’t need him at all and he needs me and that’s a good place to be in a negotiation.”.
So it certainly looks like we are heading in the right direction that this fight gets made. Someone even asked me today, stopping me in the supermarket, does Aspinall fight Jones? I told them I firmly believe it happens in 2025, most likely international fight week in Las Vegas, June or July. I’ll stand by that prediction till Dana says otherwise.
If Jon Jones happens to watch Aspinall on the Piers Morgan show, I’m sure a few other things the British star said will agitate Jones.
Aspinall was asked by Morgan “Is Jon Jones the greatest fighter that’s ever lived?”. Toms response was clear “He’s failed a couple of drug tests. For me, that rules you out of being the GOAT.”
Not really the best way to get in The Champs good books is it?!
In 2025, we stand by for confirmation. Who is the number 1? Jones or Aspinall.
Enjoy the holidays.
