DWCS | Week 8 | Quick Picks
Fresh off the back of a great card in France last weekend, we have midweek fights in the form of DWCS. Now this will be a little more of a quick picks article this week, as I’ve a packed schedule! So trust I’ve done the research, and make a few plays on what I’ve got laid out for you!
As it’s a bit of a shorter article. I’ve included Tapologys data sheet, to show fighters win/loss records.
1st up, welterweights open the show!
CHRISTIEN SAVOIE V JACOBE SMITH
Solid little opener whilst it lasts I’d say. As if it goes past the 1st round I’d expect Smith to get the finish. As Savoie looks to have some questionable cardio. Smith is a wrestler. D1 standard. So he’s legit on the ground. Striking needs work but I’d expect that. It’s still solid. Savoie is decent on the feet. Technically solid. But has a tendency to rush in. If he doesn’t win in 1. He’s toast. I think Smith is just the sort of guy who’s destined for the UFC. Hence why he’s the big favourite. Around -450/500. Look for a prop of maybe under 2.5, or Smith inside the distance. Solid parlay piece on the ML if you must.
PICK – Smith to win @ -500
Next, you might have seen this guy once. Or even twice before. Lol.
ABDELLAH ER-RAMY V TORREZ FINNEY
Yep he’s back. Torrez Finney hopes it’s 3rd time lucky on DWCS, and he finally secures a contract. He’s won his other 2 times. But just hasn’t impressed. He’s jacked. Great wrestler. But needs improvements in the striking dept. He’s taking on Ramy who I do kind of like. Looks to have a good stand up game, quality kicks and packs power. Plus he’s hard to keep down if you take him down. He’s a live dog for sure. An I kinda wanna pick him. But I’ve this nagging feeling Finney is gonna grind his way to a win somehow. Maybe I feel sorry for him after Dana tore into him earlier this season. I don’t know. Call it a hunch. Finney is a -225 favourite. Playable to that. Anymore id leave it alone or punt on Ramy to get the upset W.
PICK – Finney to win @ -225
We shall keep it moving along, next up it’s my favourite fight of the night!
DAVID MARTINEZ V XAVIER FRANKLIN
Love this fight. It should probably be the main event. It’s just the closest fight on the card skill wise, and should be action packed. Martinez is a quality striker, has great movement, and his wrestlings decent too. He’s fought in Combate Global, and definitely has the better resume. Xavier Franklin is explosive. He has good wrestling, can bang, and is pretty speedy. My only red flag for him in this fight, is his size. At 135 he’s undersized and I think he’s way more suited to 125 right now. It doesn’t mean he can’t win, but I think as this is a close fight, and it could be the telling factor the longer the fight goes. But regardless for us fans, this should be fight of the night. So we win anyways. But from a betting standpoint, I have to roll with the bigger man here.
PICK – Martinez to win @ -170.
Can we call this a co-main event next? Anyhow, it’s the penultimate fight on the card. Even if it shouldn’t be!
ALBERTO MONTES V CARLOS CALDERON
Calderon comes in on short notice here to face Montes, and honestly. Neither of these guys belong in the UFC from the tape I’ve seen. Calderon is decent. But decent isn’t the UFC. If his cardio holds up he might get the upset win. He’s ok everywhere but as you can probably tell I just can’t find the excitement for this one. Montes is a Muay Thai guy. Again he’s alright. Nothing amazing. Plus he’s only had like 4 fights in the last 6 years or something. It’s a head scratcher how he’s landed here. Anyway, he has had a full camp, Calderon hasn’t. So if you want to be this fight, Montes is likely the play. Personally I’ll be leaving it alone and taking a piss break. Do better Dana.
PICK – Piss Break.
MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING TIME! The big guys at 205 close the show.
DIYAR NURGOZHAY V BARTOSZ SZEWCZYK
Managed to watch a good amount of tape on these two and this should be a banger. I’d expect it to mainly payout on the feet. An who doesn’t love striking! Both guys have a kickboxing style. Diyar is the bigger hitter power wise. But Bartosz looks better technically. I’d see he’s also the slightly bigger guy. Certainly more jacked. Diyar is carrying a bit more of a soft physique shall we say. Bet he could make 185. I expect a cagey affair in the 1st few minutes. But once these guys find their range, it should catch fire! Diyar is the favourite, but that’s probably cos he has like 6 or 7 1st round KO’s. But he’s not fought anyone amazing. I really think this is more of a pick’em scrap. So I’ll roll with the dawg in this one. He’s more polished and I ain’t sure Diyar has cardio outside of the first 5 minutes. We shall see. But give me the dog to bark and earn a shot at the UFC contract.
PICK – Bartosz to win @ +105.
Enjoy the violence my friends.
