DWCS | SEASON FINALE | BEST BETS
9 weeks down. 1 to go. As we get straight into week 10 of the DWCS card. The final 5 fights of what has been an incredible season. So no messing about my degenerate friends. Let’s get into it!
Fight number 1 is in the 170lb division.
MOHAMED ADO V JONATHAN MICALLEF
Ado comes into this fight riding a 5-0 record, and all of them have come by finish for the Canadian. 4 submissions & 1 KO. He looks the more technical fighter. He’s got good stand up and of course he’s no slouch in the grappling department.
Jonathan Micallef hails from Australia and has a good record of 6-1. But his loss concerns me a little. He was knocked out Aldin Bates back in March on a Hex fight series card. His brawling style just leaves him just to open to getting countered, and unless he’s improved that defence it’s just not going to fly at top level unless you have a granite chin.
I like Ado to get it done here. He’s just the more polished of the two guys. If he plays to his strengths, I don’t think Micallef has enough in his arsenal to take the win. I was surprised to see the line move making Ado to underdog in this fight. But I won’t let that deter me from taking Ado here.
PICK – Ado to win @ +110.
Next up we move to the women’s 115lb division.
LESLIE HERNANDEZ V JULIETA MARTINEZ
Leslie Hernandez makes the walk with a 4-1 record, and fights out of Phoenix, Arizona. The MMA Lab fighter has fought in LFA in her pro career. Leslie lost her pro debut but has won 4 straight since then. She’s got decent stand up, and hits pretty hard for a division not known for its power hitters.
Julieta Martinez has a prefect 7-0 record and is on a 9 fight win streak if you count her amateur career. The problem I’ve had with Martinez is that I can’t find a whole load of footage of her fighting. She fights out of Argentina and has had most of her fights in the Samurai fight house promotion. Where she was a champion. She’s either gonna be a total killer. Or she’s going to be dreadful! Tread lightly as I have no faith in picking a winner here. I’ll ride with the unknown Argentine.
PICK – Julieta Martinez to win @ -120.
2 down 3 to go, and we are back with the men and the Featherweight division.
YADIER DELVALLE V ANTONIO MONTEIRO.
Cubas Yadier DelValle fights in the FURY FC promotion and has already added 2 more wins this year to his overall 7-0 record. His striking is pretty decent, but it’s his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt that really stands out for me. This guys submission game is slick. Loves a choke. But has a pretty nasty arm-bar too. On tape, I love this guy. He appears legit. But the acid test comes here.
Antonio Monteiro is no slouch either I’m sure, and certainly has the edge in experience in this fight. He fights in Shooto in Brazil, and enters the cage with a record of 17-4-1. He’s a well rounded fighter, aggressive, but I just aren’t sold on him to move to the next level. He’s yet to fight in 2024 and he has lost to guys who he really should have beat. Something’s off, as the lines a pick em. Tread carefully. As I have not watched much tape on this guy. You’ve been warned.
PICK – Yadier DelValle to win @ -110
Fight 4 on the card takes us to the 125lb division and someone’s 0 has to go!
NICK PICCININNI V LUIS GURULE.
Nick Piccininni is a wrestler who went to Oklahoma state university. So it’s safe to say he has the wrestling chops to be a problem. The New Yorker has a perfect 7-0 record with 5 of those wins coming via submission. We saw Piccininni earlier this season, when he beat Jack Duffy. But Dana didn’t agree with the judges. I expect Nick to be much better tonight. That last performance wasn’t what you’d expect of an All American wrestler. I’m sure he will of put the work in needed to have a better showing in this seasons finale.
He will have his hands full with Luis Gurule. Luis is 9-0 and is FURY FC flyweight champion. He is a come forward pressure fighter, and whilst his striking is pretty solid he just doesn’t throw enough strikes. Luis can wrestle, but sadly for him it’s not at the level of his opponent. He will want to keep this on the feet, and if he can he has a great path to victory. I just aren’t betting my money that he can. I think the books have this matched as a pick’em due to Nicks poor showing last time out. I’ll bet I’m right.
PICK – Nick Piccininni to win @ -110
ITS TIME FOR THE MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING! We make the trip up to the middleweight division.
NICK KLEIN V HERALDO SOUZA
Nick Klein has some great tattoos! Not that you should pick him because of it. lol. He reminds of Suga Sean, but bigger. He does have nice striking, but not on the level of the former 135lb champ. He defends take downs well, and even if you can get him to the mat he will pop back up as soon as he can. He won’t accept the position. Which is always a good trait to have. He has pop in his punches, and is well versed enough on the ground to lock in a submission. He’s definitely a fighting man. I like him. He’s got heart.
Heraldo Souza is 9-1-1 and riding an impressive 5 fight win streak. His last 3 have come by finish. Souza is quite small for this division. But what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for with his speed. Some of his combinations are lightening quick. He’s got power and I expect him to start fast and go for the kill right away. That’s his best shot. Because from the looks of it, this kid doesn’t have amazing cardio. If Klein fights smart, gets it out the first, I think he can take over and get the win. Souza is a betting favourite. But let’s play the dog for one final time this season.
PICK – Nick Klein @ +137.
Enjoy the violence my degen pals!
