THE GOOSES EDGE – All about the underdogs in Newcastle.
Whats up fight fans?! Feeling the pain of a Saturday night passing you by, and no UFC on to get your fix of betting action! Well fear not my brothers and sisters, your boy Goose has you well and truly covered.
Now as I am based here in England, I have been a keen follower of the Cagewarriors promotion for some time. Way back to when a certain young irishman named Conor McGregor made his debut for the promotion. So for your betting pleasure, and you degenerate gamblers who might be reading this. I have some great underdog bets for the CW172 card in Newcastle. LETS GET INTO IT.
Leon Hill v Tommy Hawthorn – Take Tommy Hawthorn to win @ +130.
Now for me this is very much of a pick-em match up. So I’ll happily take the dog in this one to start the night off. I was at Leon Hills last fight where he got submitted in the 1st round by Ieuan Davies. Hill isn’t a terrible fighter, and he was very much in the fight till he got caught in a triangle armbar. But he is coming up against Tommy Hawthorn who is making his CW debut, and is on a nice 2 fight winning streak, both by finish. If this fight was to take place on the ground I’d favour Hill. But as we all know fights start in the feet, and soon as that bell goes Tommy will press forward and swing. Couple that with him having a pretty solid takedown defence, and he just has the easier route for the win. Plus I I don’t think Hill will be able to handle the pace that Tommy pushes. At the odds on offer, I’ll happily ride with the apparent underdog to get it done.
Chasen Blair v Arturs Leisans – Take Arturs Leisans to win @ +300.
Chasen Blair is held in high regard in America & the UK fans might not be familiar with him just yet. He came out of North Carolina with a huge wrestling pedigree, and whilst that’s a solid MMA base I just feel it doesn’t warrant the -450 favourite price tag. He should win. But Leisans won’t go down without a fight. This Latvian loves chaos and that is exactly what he’s going to bring to Blair on Saturday night. He will march forward and swing hook after hook if any of his past fights are anything to go by. Plus his record of 9-7 is misleading. As he is 5-2 in his last 7. Of course bet wisely. My guy is +300 for a reason. But if you want a fun bet for the night at big odds, take the Eastern European to pull off the big upset. I know I will.
Joshua Abraham v Aidan Lee – Take Joshua Abraham to win @ +275
I expected Aidan Lee to be a shorter price for this fight. He’s -400 and I have no confidence in him at that price against a well rounded fighter like Josh. Aidan Lee is riding a 2 fight losing skid, whilst Josh is on a 2 fight winning streak. Aidan has some great submission skills, but Josh is no slouch in that department either. So I just don’t get this line. So with taken all that into account would I rather play 100$ on Lee to win 25$, or 100$ on Josh to win 275$. I’ll let you figure it out for yourselves.
Last but not least we have the MAIN EVENT.
Harry Hardwick v Orlando Prins – Take Orlando Prins to win @ +275.
Now for the UK fans reading this. Hear me out before you leap at my like a lion protecting its cub. Harry Hardwick is not his brother George. He’s the B side of the duo. Yes he’s a very talented lad. But he should not be a -400 favourite against Prins. So a bit like the last fight, zero value at that price on Hardwick to get it done. Other than if you wanna stick it in a parlay with a load of other big favourites on the card. Prins has an excellent ground game, which nullifies Hardwicks best asset. As Hardwick like Prins has a brilliant ground game. So from there we look at the stand up, where again it’s a bit of a coin flip. Neither has the significant advantage. Prins might even edge the boxing. But nothing on the tape or on the fighters records leads me to believe this fight should have a line this wide. So once again simple math, I’ll take a swing with the dog to ruin the Hardwicks night and take the CW featherweight title back to the Netherlands with him.
THE LAST WORD.
Now for you degenerates reading, all hope is lost on you here. As I ask people reading to please GAMBLE RESPONSIBLY. These fighters are underdogs, and will be great for a fun bet, that has a real chance of cashing. If you want the 5 leg parlay that returns even money? These picks ain’t for you. I’ll have the safer plays next week at UFC302.
You can thank me later. 😊
